QUOTE- Jean Tinguely

'In his 1959 Manifesto For Statics Tinguely exhorted his fellow artists to "stop painting time. Cease building cathedrals and pyramids that crumble away like sugar decorations. Breathe deeply, live in the now, live on and in time. For a beautiful and absolute reality." He then abridged his manifesto, had 150,000 copies printed and dropped them from airplanee over Dusseldorf.'

Get to know 1-artist-a-day

This is an incredibly informative website which I use often to update myself on contemporary artists from all over the world.

I hope you all will find it useful too.

蔡国强 Cai Guo-Qiang

Today's film on Roman Signer reminded me of this Chinese Artist whose works I got to know few years ago. He uses a lot of fireworks, explosives and stuffed big cats...

He has the desire to portray the aesthetic of pain through these animals, which are completely fake - man-made. His works also possess a poetic quality, sometimes indescribable with words. I strongly believe this is art...

I hope one day I'll be able to see one of his fireworks performance LIVE! Youtube has many videos of his works.

P.S. This was the guy in-charged of creating the "BIG FOOTSTEP" stomping into the bird nest stadium for the Beijing Olympics 2008.
